Soon after the mister and i were married i discovered something about myself that i had never noticed before.
I was afraid to love things.
by things i mean, i didn’t collect anything, i didn’t have a hobby that i loved, there was no one thing that truly excited me. i actually feared attaching myself to something in that way. what if i changed my mind, what if people didn’t agree with me, what if, heaven forbid, someone made fun of me!
here are the things at the age of 22 that i could tell you i loved-
- stars-i still adore them. i aim to have at least one in every room of my house. it is rare that you will see me without one of my star necklaces.
- red-i love the color red. it makes me feel good, i look good in it. a wall painted red makes my day.
- driving-this is a weird one but i do love to drive. it gives me a sense of control, speed and adventure
that about sums it up. sad huh.
I have since learned from my husband to let myself love things. now i’m not talking coveting or loving things more than people because we all know you can’t take it with you when the good lord says it’s time to go. the mister loves things, he is passionate about several things and i adore him for it. there are times i don’t understand it but it makes him who he is. I’m actually going to try to get him to blog with me occasionally so maybe he’ll tell you about them later or maybe i will because it’s a long shot getting him to blog.
here is my list of things i love now- but before you read it keep in mind that there is nothing mind blowing here. these are just things that make me, me. and you will probably never see any collection of things on the shelves in my house. wait, i lied, you will see stars and baseballs but no figurines or spoons or silliness of that sort. i’m just saying.
- stars-see above
- red-see above
- driving-again, see above
- quilting-i love, love, love to make quilts! I am no where close to being great at it, but i adore it and am always looking for an excuse to make someone a quilt. I am just learning to machine quilt and have a goal to learn free form quilting on those huge machines. see i don’t even know what it’s proper name is! i recently made a quilt for big sister but it has yet to be bound and finished so that is on the to do list. here is a picture of the one i’m working on now for my friend Melissa’s new little one baby Zac.
- reading-i’m not sure were this came from because i’ve never been much of a reader. however, in the last year i’ve read over 15 books and i get so wrapped up in them i usually neglect all other duties beside life sustaining items until the book is done. i generally read novels if your wondering.
- my computer-i think this one is kind of silly but i spend so much time on this thing i have to include it. the mister talked me into getting our first mac a few months after we got married and i’m here to tell you that once you go mac, you won’t go back! my imac runs my life. or at least it helps me stay organized in a very simple, hugely helpful way! which brings me to my next new love…
- my iphone-the longer i have this thing the more i realize i am only half a brain without it! enough said.
- baseball-this one came from the mister but it is now ingrained deep within me. i can sit and watch all 4 hours of a game and not get board. it is such a great game! we have played coed softball for over 6 years now and it is a family affair. i even play while pregnant and that’s sayin’ somethin. i heart baseball.
- flip flops-i hold them near and dear to my heart. i try to wear them year round but i am not a huge fan of cold and that usually gets between me and my flip flops. the mister used to say to me ‘are you going to where flip flops to church?’ and i was very confused and had to tell him ‘honey, these are my dressy flip flops, they are perfectly suited for church!’ he now knows the difference between everyday flip flops and ‘church’ flip flops. and if he doesn’t, he’s pretty good about keeping quiet about it. :)
i have several other things so maybe i’ll share them later but i’m going to stop there because this post is getting ridiculously long!

Wait a sec…
You’ve made Teri and quilt and now Melissa. Um…
Tori, as soon as J’s is done and Melissa’s I swear you are next! But what kind do you want? Give me some direction.
just for the record. she’s never made me a quilt. “big sister” mean’s her oldest daughter.
